The Position

www.亚洲色 invites applications for an adjunct instructor in the Applied Social Sciences
program to teach Sociology of Crime and Deviance, Social Work Practice for Individuals, and/or
Sociology of Popular Culture in the Fall term 2026. Candidates must be aligned with and passionate
about Redeemer鈥檚 Christian mission of integrating faith in teaching. Candidates should possess a
relevant Master's degree or a PhD. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record (or show
potential) of excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Responsibilities

  • All duties associated with teaching the course(s). Such duties are guided by approved course-
    level learning outcomes.
  • Scheduled office hours/availability to meet with and respond to student inquiries.
  • Non-classroom time made up of preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking or
    grading, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
  • Institutional responsibilities in line with the contract.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Previous post-secondary teaching experience is preferred.

Education/Training/Certifications

  • MA or PhD (preferred)  in Sociology or a related field (ex. Anthropology or Social Work)

Application Process

As a liberal arts and sciences university rooted in the Reformed tradition of Christianity, we seek candidates committed to this framework. Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching quality, the names of two individuals who have agreed to provide letters of reference should the applicant advance to a later stage of the process. 

In addition to these materials, applicants must include a short statement describing their own Christian faith commitment and practice, its alignment with Redeemer鈥檚 mission and its impact on their academic and professional work. A range of qualifications will be evaluated, including distinguishing characteristics that demonstrate congruence with Redeemer鈥檚 identity as a university in the Protestant and particularly Reformed Christian tradition.

Course Information

APS-241: Sociology of Crime and Deviance

A sociological analysis of deviant and criminal behaviour in society. After an overview of different explanations of crime, this course will concentrate on various dimensions of deviant behaviour such as delinquency, drug abuse, and white collar crime. Police and court response to criminal behaviour will also be analyzed.

APS-329: Social Work Practice with Individuals

This course explores the theories and methods of social work practice with individuals. Topics to be covered include: theories pertinent to social work practice with individuals, working with individuals from diverse populations, the development of professional relationships, understanding intervention roles, and the process of intervention (engagement, assessment, intervention, termination, and evaluation).

APS-355: Sociology of Popular Culture

In an era of mass communication and commercialism, this course will explore the relationship between popular culture and its impact on society. This course will examine popular culture through a critical perspective which will address in particular the relationship between the Christian church and popular culture.

APS-255: Introduction to Indigenous Peoples in Canada

(Formerly APS-455). This course is an introduction to the histories, cultures and worldviews of First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples in Canada, collectively referred to as Indigenous peoples. The course provides an initial pathway for students to better understand the relationships Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada, including the challenges and issues endured by Indigenous peoples in Canada that have resulted from European colonization. Students will explore the complexities of reconciliation and consider how the concept of shalom could be used to pursue meaningful acts of reconciliation at the personal and communal level.
