Experience Canada’s only Reformed Christian Master of Education program! Redeemer’s Master of Education (M.Ed.) prepares Christian educators to lead with purpose in teaching and administrative roles in schools, churches and not-for-profits.
The two-year, part-time program is designed to fit seamlessly around students’ professional lives, beginning with a community-building, in-person summer residency followed by online instruction. With research and course-based tracks enabling students to orient their studies around their goals, graduates of the M.Ed. can prepare for the next stage of their educational careers, be it leadership roles, instructional specialization or doctoral studies in education.
In a small, 25-person learning cohort, students work closely with faculty mentors and classmates, participating in group discussions and virtual activities that emphasize the significance of personhood, place and community in education. Rooted in a distinctly Christian tradition, the courses will help students consider their professional practices and leadership abilities through a lens of Christian service, discipleship and care, challenging them to reflect the character of Jesus Christ in work environments to which they are called.

Introductory Summer Residency
The M.Ed. begins with a mandatory week-long, in-person residency on Redeemer’s campus in Ancaster, Ontario. During this week, students get to know their faculty and cohort through orientation activities, in-person instruction, shared meals and recreational activities. This week is critical in establishing a foundation of mutual trust and respect and rooting continuing online learning in Christian community.
Track Options
The M.Ed. offers two unique tracks to help students meet their educational goals. Students request their preferred track in the winter term of their first year of studies.
Research Track
Students’ second year will focus on the development of a research proposal and completion of a major research paper. Students will explore various education research methods and conduct educational research on a personally or professionally relevant topic in education. Students work one-on-one with a faculty supervisor throughout the research process and learn to translate their knowledge for relevant audiences. This track prepares students for specialized leadership roles, administration opportunities, and doctoral-level studies in education.
Course-Based Track
In second year, students will begin two elective courses related to their vocation as leaders or educators. These streams are intended to allow students flexibility as they seek to grow in their knowledge and their ability to serve their learning communities. Students’ course-based inquiry culminates in a Capstone Project that integrates their learning in the program and applies it to a personal/professional education context. Upon graduation, students in this track will be equipped for advanced leadership opportunities, specialization and administrative opportunities in education.
- Leadership Stream: Explore special topics relevant to educational leaders and administrators in a variety of contexts.
- Educator Stream: Develop in-depth knowledge applicable to a wide range of teaching environments.
