Scholarship
FAQ
Get answers to your top questions about scholarships, bursaries and awards at Redeemer.
Is a bursary different from a scholarship?

Yes. Bursaries are based on financial need. Scholarships require that you meet certain criteria (which may include minimum GPA, specific major or area of study, extracurricular activities, leadership, etc.). All students can apply for both bursaries and scholarships as long as they meet the listed criteria.

Can I apply for more than one scholarship/bursary? Is there a limit?

There is no limit. You can apply for both scholarships and bursaries, provided you meet the criteria listed. There is, however, no guarantee that you will receive every award for which you have applied. In addition, Redeemer does not offer full-ride scholarships.

Does Redeemer offer full-ride scholarships?

Redeemer is committed to offering affordable tuition and to helping students match with any awards for which they are eligible. Full-ride scholarships are not currently offered.

How am I assessed for scholarships and bursaries with a GPA requirement as a secondary school applicant?

Secondary school applicants (students entering directly from secondary school with no previous post-secondary education) will be assessed on their admission average at Grade 12 midyear time, and again at the end of Grade 12 based on the Ontario curriculum scale.

How am I assessed for scholarships and bursaries with a GPA requirement as a GAP year applicant?

Students who have taken one or two years off after secondary school or who have attended a discipleship or gap year program (that is not eligible for post-secondary credit), will be assessed on their admission average calculated from their final secondary school transcript based on the Ontario curriculum scale. Students who receive post-secondary credit for their gap-year program are subject to the eligibility criteria as outlined by Scholarship Consideration for Incoming Transfer Students. Students admitted as mature students are not eligible for academic scholarships under this policy.

How am I assessed for scholarships and bursaries with a GPA requirement as a transfer student applicant?

For students transferring directly from a recognized undergraduate university institution, scholarships will be awarded based on the grade point average of the last year (two terms) of full-time studies (minimum of four courses a term) based on the Ontario curriculum scale. Transfer students are also evaluated for the Automatic Entrance Scholarships at admission.

When will my financial aid be applied to my student account?

Most financial aid is posted to the student account approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester, provided that all documents are completed.

What happens if I am not taking a full course load?

To receive the full value of any award, a student must be enrolled in a minimum of 4 courses (12 credit hours) in each term. A student who has received an award and enrols in a course load of 3 courses (9 credit hours) in one term will receive the award on a prorated basis (i.e. enrolment in 3 courses would result in 60% of the award total) unless otherwise stated in the conditions of the specific award. Award proration on courses dropped after the term has started will follow the tuition and fees refund schedule in the Academic Calendar.

Even with financial aid, I won’t be able to pay my tuition fees. Are there any other ways I can fund my courses?

Yes. There are paid jobs on campus which may help fund your education. Our Career Centre can also actively help you find access to paid internships and other opportunities in the local area.

If I am taking a gap year am I still eligible to receive Redeemer scholarships and bursaries?

Yes, you are still eligible to apply for scholarships/bursaries when you apply to Redeemer. You may be excluded from certain scholarships based on donor criteria, but there are many others for which you would be eligible.

When is the deadline to apply for financial aid?

For Fall intake, the deadline to apply for financial aid and the Christian Leadership Scholarship is February 28 (for maximum consideration).

What if I have missed the priority funding application deadline?

If there is funding available after the first round, late financial aid applications will be taken into consideration during the second round of funding.

I am a mature student. Am I still eligible for financial aid?

Yes, please complete the financial aid application located on your student portal to see what you are eligible for.

Where can I find a full list of tuition and costs?

A full listing of the fees that are required for the current academic year can be found on the Tuition & Costs page. It does not include books (estimated at $300 to $600 per term) or personal items. Fees for the academic year can also be found in the Academic Calendar.
