Dr. Deborah Bowen聽will be retiring from her post as professor of English and chair of the department of English at the end of the winter 2017 term. Dr. Bowen joined the English Department in 1996, after receiving her PhD from the University of Ottawa in 1990 and then teaching at Ottawa U and the Universite虂 de Montre虂al. Her teaching and expertise lie in the fields of contemporary Canadian poetry, environmental literature, 20th century British fiction and poetry and postcolonial literature; she is also co-chair of the national Christianity and Literature study group.

After over 20 years at the university, Dr. Bowen鈥檚 smiling face and gentle demeanour will be greatly missed, though she plans still to teach part-time for the next few years. 鈥淭eaching in the English department at Redeemer is a great privilege,鈥 says Bowen, 鈥渂ecause we get not only to help students read well, but also to discuss with them how their reading can relate to their spiritual lives.鈥
