Then, after receiving information, the person will be delighted to take the place and send the down payment required. However, after sending an overpayment of $2,000 – 3,000 in the form of a money order or traveller’s cheque, an urgent email will come stating the person’s accountant made a mistake and requests a partial return of the money. The landlord will then be instructed to send the money back by ‘Western Union’ to the address of the travel agent. A month later, the original money order or traveller’s cheque is found to be counterfeit. The landlord will not be able to retrieve the money sent by ‘Western Union’ and will be out thousands of dollars. Please use caution in dealing with email contacts.
