Recreation therapy provides service to, and advocates for, individuals with physical, mental, social, behavioural or emotional limitations through meaningful experiences in recreation and leisure in a variety of settings.聽

Mohawk鈥檚 intensive recreation therapy program is typically reserved for students who have already completed a bachelor鈥檚 degree. This new partnership allows Redeemer students to enter Mohawk鈥檚 program after 2陆 years at Redeemer, complete one semester of study and one summer internship, and then return to Redeemer for their final year. Up to five Redeemer students will be accepted into the Mohawk program each semester.

鈥淩edeemer is pleased to partner with Mohawk, making a new and exciting pathway for our students to begin careers in recreation therapy. This partnership gives our students a new and valuable opportunity to find their calling — one of the four pillars of Redeemer’s core curriculum — and honour God through service to the wider community as a recreation therapist,鈥 says Kyle Spyksma, interim vice-president, academic at www.亚洲色.

鈥淲e are happy to be partnered with www.亚洲色 in this unique dual-credential arrangement, allowing Redeemer students to earn both a Redeemer degree and a Mohawk College recreation therapy diploma when they graduate. Combining their university education with Mohawk鈥檚 in-class recreation therapy training and an extensive practical placement, the students will finish their studies job-ready for positions in an important and growing field of healthcare,鈥 says Paul Armstrong, vice-president, academic at Mohawk College.

There is already one Redeemer student completing the program this semester. Students interested in taking the joint Recreation Therapy program can apply to Redeemer and choose from a variety of bachelor degree programs.
