Redeemer’s spring 2015 rendition of Hecuba, a play telling the story of the queen of Troy, has been named by聽View magazine as one of the best shows of 2015.

鈥淎ctress Jennifer Hoogsteen played her with visceral emotion. Her slender body wracked with grief. Louter鈥檚 choreography, Sharon Klassen鈥檚 production design, and Nicholas Longstaff鈥檚 original music reminded one of a neo-classical painting, but with sound. The visually and musically adept Chorus engaged from the opening with their chanting and dance surrounding the terrified young son of Hecuba and Priam, Polydorus, performed with elegant emotion by Ruth Chan. There were many stand-out performances such as Jessica Strydhorst as Plyxena and Michael Emmanuel鈥檚 King Polymestor. Redeemer鈥檚 Theatre programme is impressive and their belief that the classics are an essential element to understanding theatre is rewarded by this excellent production. Although this play was written over 2000 years ago, it and other plays like it resonate well with young students, particularly Euripides concept of making mythical superheroes behave like ordinary people.”
